Restoring Authority: Strong Actions from the Andalucian Government
A 2 storey illegally built property has been demolished in Alhaurín el Grande as an act of authority restoration by the Andalucian Government. The proprietor had obtained a license for a single story agricultural construction of 100m2, and yet had progressed to build a 2 story home, complete with pool, basement and cemented car park. He has been met with a €3600 fine, alongside 6 months in prison and the costs of the demolition.
This is just an example of the comeuppance for those that now decide to build illegally after all of the issues caused by the current properties. As well known at the moment, the Andalucian Government is in the process of finalizing the decree for the legalization and recognition of many of the illegal buildings throughout the Costa del Sol, a lengthy and expensive process. Clearly they are keen to ensure that these actions are not repeated in the future, and that all loop holes are removed.
The new Partido Popular local government in Mijas has high hopes to start the process of legalization as soon as possible, with expectations to finish the project across the next two years. The PGOU local development plan shall be redesigned and classified so that properties can be dealt with case by case, though Manuel Navarro is keen to point out that the costs of regulating the properties will have to be met by the owners.
In more positive news, El Diario Sur has reported that meetings will be taking place across July between Mijas Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucia in Malaga, in order to discover if there are ways of speeding up the process. The PP local government is also looking into passing a motion to halt proceedings started against all illegal property owners in order to reduce the stress of the situation.
