How can we identify whether we have the virus?

Most estimates of the incubation period for COVID-19 range from 5 to 7 days, but it can be as long as 14 days. If you develop a high fever, cough, and so on, you should contact the health authorities. They will decide whether diagnostic tests are necessary.

Can I get it again?

There are still no studies on whether SARS-CoV-2 infection provides immunity or how long this lasts.

Can the virus be transmitted via money?

In general, a lot of people touch money, but it is a porous material, so it is difficult for the virus to remain there for long. The most important thing is to wash your hands.

Is it safe to receive a package from an area where there have been cases of COVID-19?

The likelihood that an infected person will contaminate commercial items is low, and the risk of contracting the virus that causes COVID-19 through contact with a package that has been handled, transported and exposed to different conditions and temperatures is also low. In addition, it is difficult for the virus to survive in a carton box.

Should taxi drivers, who are in contact with lots of people, take extra precautions?

You should follow the usual hygiene advice. For example, use some kind of gel, and air out the taxi frequently. If you pick up a passenger who is coughing a lot and has a fever, the most likely situation is that they have the flu or a cold.

If I travel to an affected area, am I at risk?

It is advisable to avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas. See the updated map.

If you do finally decide to travel, the following preventive measures are recommended in order to reduce the risk of infection:

  • Avoid close contact with live or dead domestic or wild animals and their secretions or excrements in markets or on farms.
  • Avoid eating animal products (undercooked or raw meat or food).

People over 65 years of age and those with other health problems may be at risk of contracting the disease more seriously. These people should have their travel assessed by a health professional from an international vaccination centre.

What should I do if I have returned from an affected area?

If your health is generally good, you can carry on life as normal. However, your health condition should be monitored for 14 days after the trip.

If you experience symptoms such as general malaise, cough, fever or shortness of breath, the recommendation is to stay at home and call 112 or 061 Health Response, if you are in Catalonia.

It is important to provide details about your trip and your symptoms so that healthcare professionals can assess if you should be placed under home confinement, and give you instructions to follow.
